code blue, code 3

Friday was absolutely crazy. As many of you know I am an Emergency Medic on my campus and am part of the Emergency Response Team. We respond to all medical, fire and other environmental emergencies. On Friday around 2pm we got a call for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Of course we respond in full force since calls like this are never good. Without revealing too much (as we do have to keep some things private), but it turns out that instead of being hit by a vehicle the person in question fell out of their vehicle while driving and it ran into a parking lot (obviously without anyone inside the vehicle). The vehicle then preceded to move unattended throughout the parking lot of a swerving course somehow missing 3 BMW sedans, 1 BMW Z4, an Audi and a Ford Expedition, to finally end up lodging itself in some shrubbery (that is some luck). What we are still to this day trying to figure out is how someone (theoretically wearing a seatbelt) falls out of a moving vehicle that they are driving. This was an injury accident and due to the original call we had to close off much of the street and handle that as well as the medical. 40 minutes later we final declare an all clear, only to have the alarms go off for another alarm on the other side of campus. To make a long and longer story shorter, we had a total of 7 emergency calls in 4 hours (this compared to the usual 1 per day). These calls ranged everywhere between of course the medical listed above, to a couple of potential fires, and a domestic disturbance. Suffice to say by 6pm on a Friday night we were very ready for the weekend. Can’t wait to see what Monday brings.

Stay tuned for more excitement in the wide world of well me.

Did the unmanned vehicle have some sort of an accident avoidance system in it to miss crashing into all of the other luxury vehicles?? Must be some shrubbery to stop a vehicle in motion. Any chance the person was driving a Jeep with no doors? Because that I could understand, I often wonder that when I see them on the road. But out of a typical sedan? Maybe they were practicing for their next career as a stuntman. After all, everyone in California is an actor, right??
