Its just another day, or is it?

A number of people today discussed how Valentine’s day is nothing special, just another day, only made special both those executives at Hallmark and at the diamond exchange. But can any day really just be simply a day?

Today I was driving to work and was so caught up in thoughts from the news that I missed my turn-off from the highway not once but actually twice. Missed it the first time, went another 2 miles down the highway, flipped around and then missed it again. This of course does not bode well for my general driving abilities when lost in thought but it does highlight the power on our minds when we set it to focus on a particular subject. Mother’s and Father’s day is no different than any other, no parades or fireworks, yet for 24 hours all of our senses are forced in a polar direction of remembering either parent. Any holiday, be it large or small is about focus and direction. Valentine’s day is no exception, it is of course an excuse to celebrate and be thankful for what we might have but also a time to take more than a momentary look at our own direction. Are we happy with where we are in love, maybe we want to change and don’t know how, or maybe we just need to take a few more risks. Sure we say it jokingly when we call it Single’s Appreciation Day, but really it is about taking a second and taking stock of what we had, have and hope to achieve.

I heard an interesting statistic that only 10% of all people end up never finding someone to settle down with for any period of time in their life, what statistics fail to mention is how happy they were and how long it lasted. But it does inspire all to take heart, for there is no hurrying emotions and no point in trying. Instead take stock in what you have, the friends you have around you and if you have a free moment as you pass your exit on the highway maybe a family member or two.

On a separate note my friend’s dog bit a postman and they are all worried that he might have to be put down do to hurting another. This of course begs the question if Chaney will have to have the same repercussions for shooting a friend.
